Sa ika-24 taon ng FACINE Mabuhay ang Pelikulang Filipino!

Helping out my friend Mauro Feria Tumbocon Jr., Director of  FACINE (Filipino Arts & Cinema International).

You might be interested to be part of this yearly event now on its 24th year held annually in the Bay Area, San Francisco, California USA.

FACINE 24: WHY WE CHOOSE TO DO IT THIS WAY, OUR WAY, THIS TIME.

Hopefully, in two weeks time, the 8 or 9 finalists for this year's FACINE festival will be announced, much way, way earlier than usual, to give more time to focus our promotions/social media campaign on the films and the filmmakers in contention for the re-launching of the Competition section. This way, Filipino cinema is front and center of the festival, nobody else. This addresses the first reason why FACINE ex...ists - to showcase Filipino cinema, in all its breadth and diversity - already, the submitted entries continue to prove the latter - in this part of the world, the San Francisco/Bay Area where independent cinema prevails and triumphs.

Second, the re-launching of the Competition section affords us a platform to take critical look at Filipino cinema, in the context of a multi-cultural America, because the jury is multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary, and the films are screened in the US. One of the jury members has proposed that this be a coordinated project with the membership of the San Francisco Film Critics Society - the details of such an endeavor is still in the process of being organized.

Third, on its 24th year, FACINE follows on its important role to educate and inform our public about Filipino cinema - launched last year with the talk of FACINE 23 Gawad Lingap Sining honoree, Prof. Joel David - with a lecture or two and a workshop on Filipino cinema. This aspect of the festival serves to distinguish itself from the other festivals in the city.

Mabuhay ang pelikulang Filipino! Long live Filipino cinema! Mabuhay ang FACINE.
